Monday, August 4th, 2025

    Good afternoon, dear students.

TEMA: Adverbs of secuence

EVIDENCIA DE APRENDIZAJE: Reconoce y utiliza adecuadamente los adverbios de secuencia   para describir el orden de lo que sucede.

DESARROLLO DEL TEMA:

Today we continued with the frequency adverbs and did an exercise about the order of the following story.

The Tortoise and the Hare

First, the hare laughed at the tortoise because he was very slow. He said, “I am the fastest animal in the forest!”

Next, the tortoise said, “Let’s have a race. We will see who is faster.” The hare laughed again but agreed to the race.

Then, the race began. The hare ran very fast and quickly got far ahead. He saw that the tortoise was far behind, so he decided to take a nap under a tree.

Last, the tortoise kept walking slowly and never stopped. While the hare was sleeping, the tortoise passed him. When the hare woke up, he ran to the finish line, but it was too late. The tortoise had already won the race!

Then, in the spaces, we draw the sequence.

We use a comma after "first", "next", "then" and "finally" when they introduce the sentence that describes the action.

  • "first": for an action that happens before any others. We can also use "first" at the end of the sentence.
    • "I have a lot of work to do. First, I will make a cup of tea."
    • "I will make a cup of tea first."

  • "next" and "then" can both be used for an action that happens after another action but we usually use:
    • "next": for an action that happens immediately after another action, or as soon as possible. We can also use "next" at the end of the sentence.
      • "I went to Bolivia on holiday. "Next", I want to go to Brazil."
      • "I’m eating breakfast now. I will clean the kitchen "next"."
